Animal Research Ethics
Guided by principles outlined in SIDC Animal Research Guidelines and Terms of Use, the SJREC oversees the ethical conduct of researchers engaged in scientific activities involving animals.
All animal and human research activities conducted under SIDC must adhere to ethical standards, legal requirements, and policies pertaining to animal and human welfare, respectively. The SJREC assesses research proposals, grants approvals, and monitors the progress of authorised animal and human research projects. Furthermore, it offers guidance to researchers and institutions, ensuring the ethical treatment of animals and humans in scientific and educational pursuits.
The SJREC serves as a pivotal body overseeing the ethical conduct of research projects involving both animals and humans. Composed of six members, including individuals affiliated with SIDC and external members representing diverse disciplines, the committee ensures that all studies comply with rigorous ethical standards, legal regulations, and institutional policies safeguarding the welfare of both subjects. SJREC evaluates research proposals, grants approvals, and provides ongoing monitoring to uphold ethical principles throughout the lifecycle of projects. Additionally, it offers guidance and support to researchers and institutions, fostering responsible and humane scientific inquiry at the intersection of animal and human research.
