Site Development

The Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC) represents a monumental leap forward in the field of infectious disease research and management. Situated in the strategic location of Samarahan, adjacent to the Sarawak Heart Centre, the SIDC campus is being developed to become a hub of innovation, research, and therapeutic development.

Construction Phases

The construction of the SIDC has been meticulously planned in several distinct packages to ensure a holistic approach to the development of this state-of-the-art facility:

Package 1

Involves laying the groundwork and construction of the Administration Building and Laboratory Building, Engineering Block and Back of House Facilities.

Package 2

Focuses on the fit-out works for the laboratory, equipping it with cutting-edge technology and facilities necessary for Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) research.

Package 3

Comprises the mechanical & electrical works, ensuring that the centre is outfitted with the latest in sustainable and efficient building systems.

Development Timeline

Latest Update (05/09/2024)

Since handing over the site to the contractor on 28th March 2024, there has been steady progress in the work being undertaken. As of June, major ongoing work on-site includes the preparation of road bases for temporary access, excavation of detention pond, and site preparation for offices of contractors and consultants. Construction of accommodations for workers is also in progress. Site hoarding works are also being carried out.

Piling and foundation works are actively in progress. Driving of spun piles is advancing well, and so are the works for micro piling.

We can look forward to substantial progress over the next 3 to 4 months, and by then, site preparation and piling work should have been completed.
